I can't wait for what this semester has in store for me and my sisters.

This is Katie(aka Jupiter...or is it Juniper). Summer is now over, and it is once again school time. I am really excited about this semester as classes get started up again about what will be learned, and the opportunities I will be presented with. This past week was preseason week for band and it was a lot of fun. At the end of the week we got to go to the new McLean stadium for Noche Del Oso. Its so nice and we get to sit behind the end zone. During the rehearsal Marina finally got me back for pouring water on her during our MEP, but in all honesty it was really refreshing. Although the semester has just started things are going on. We had our first rush event at Bahama Bucks (YAY snow cones), and the homework has started to pile up but it is nothing we can't handle. We have our first football game on Sunday in the new stadium and I could not be more excited about it!! Its going to be a lot of work this semester but it will be well worth it! My big Jules also just had a birthday!! She is now the same age as her little (love you Jules)!

This past Thursday, Iota was happy to host its annual Pancake Break rush event! This rush event is especially fun because all the families in our chapter get together to make different kinds of pancakes. This year there were all sorts of pancakes! To name a few, we had pancakes with Reese’s, Twix, Snickers, blueberries, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and much more! We also had some breakfast juices – because who doesn’t like breakfast for dinner?! Pancake Break was also a very important rush event this year because it served as our Informal Interviews. Informal Interviews usually only happen once towards the end of the fall semester and they actually give the rushees a chance to ask US questions about Tau Beta and bring up any concerns about the MEP (Membership Education Program). We also take this chance to tell the rushees more about our sisterhood and purpose. Brenna and her membership committee made a wonderful powerpoint to show them how fun our sorority can be! Our Beau, Figgy, was there to try all our pancakes and pick his favorite. This is a tradition in our chapter, so every year the members make sure they work extra hard on their pancakes (and sometimes even try to bribe him a little with extra candy or a personal pancake the size of a whole plate!) He ended up picking the Rosy D’s Reese’s pancakes! After we ate we played fun games like Pictionary and Catch Phrase. I can honestly say that my cheeks were hurting after laughing so much! Sic ‘em yummy pancakes and a growing sisterhood!
ITB, Iota <3 I know this blog is way overdue, but we've been so busy making our friends and ourselves feel beautiful :) Brenna, our VP Membership, had the great idea to host a rush event that was all our beauty! There are so many girls and women who constantly put themselves down because they don't look skinny enough. This girl named Caitlin started Operation Beautiful to put an end to girls and women who negatively talk about themselves. A part of Operation Beautiful is just leaving little notes everywhere for other girls and women to see. They can say anything as long as it gives people a boost of confidence! You can read more at www.operationbeautiful.com. For now, please look at how much fun the ladies of Tau Beta Sigma and all the other girls had while participating in Operation Beautiful! First, we had to write our little tid-bit of encouragement! Then we posed after we felt encouraged enough to encourage the whole Baylor Campus! For example, here's a pose of Katie and Hayley in the library! Sticky notes in bathrooms.... Sticky notes on doors.... Sticky notes on cones(?) A lot of groups even put sticky notes on cars and inside bathroom stalls! After Baylor was covered in sticky notes, we headed back to the Music School to see what surprise Brenna had for us and we showed up to this! Jeanne has a super awesome camera and she borrowed a few things from the photography department to use for our rush event! Yay! Brenna provided a bunch of silly hates and feather boas! Also, the sisters of TBS put our nailpolish together so that everyone had options on which to paint their nails!!! Thanks for reading our blog and I hope now you feel beautiful :) Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart. ~Kahlil Gibran <3 Iota It’s no secret that Iota simply adores our K Psi, Beta Alpha brothers. This is one reason why we make sure to have a few joint rush events every year. Our first one, a kickball cookout, was this Monday. Let me spell it out for you: we played kickball and ate hotdogs- pretty simply concept. Luckily, it doesn’t take an elaborately contrived plan for all of us to have a blast together. Below is a collection of pictures that sums up the rush event pretty well: Every time I went over to the food table to check on things, the bucket of cheese balls would be nowhere in sight. After a while, I discovered that Bekka had commandeered the bucket and was handing them out like crazy. I’m not totally sure what their appeal was, but everyone loved them! And what’s dinner without a show? Luckily we had some in-house talent! For those of you who are confused by the picture below, that is Erin and Dallas (one of our wonderful Rushees and a clarinet player) doing the “Journey” which is a combination of the Jerk and the Berney. Careful kids- don’t try this at home. We are all super silly at times, but at the end of the day we love each other more than anything and just enjoy being together, in any capacity. We also love spending time with all our new rushees- such a great group of women who are all incredible assets to BUGWB. Here are a few more pictures for the road. Love you guys! : ) <3 Iota Yesterday was the first rush event! Brenna did an awesome job of planning the event and getting people to come out. We really did have an awesome turn out for our first rush event. There were lots of girls there. Everyone was ready to prep and make their shirts for the Tye-Dye Fri-Dye spirit day tomorrow. We bought a box of multi-colored dyes and for some reason it came with brown and black. Why? I'm not sure, but we made the best of it! This shirt below won't be the cutest but it'll be the brownest tye-dye shirt there ever was! Every bottle of dye ran out before the brown and black ones. We weren't surprised. Emily did manage to make a pretty dang cute tye-dye shirt though! Well, at least it looks cute here. Tye-dye is kind of like a big surprise. You don't know what they look like until you're done washing them the first time. We'll see what everyone's shirts turned out like tomorrow at the spirit day! If y'all have never done tye-dye before I would like to warn you now. Wear gloves. The dye gets everywhere and it will stay for a couple of days. I thought it was pretty cute that our girls ended up reppin' the bright colored dyed hands so heres the new Tau Beta hand fad. ...and apparently it's a leg things too! Last little bit about the rush event! I want to introduce you guys to a few of our rushees this year! These girls are really awesome members of the band and if y'all are coming out to the games and manage to see them then say hi! I'm sure they would love to meet some of our past members. c: In this first picture here we have Michelle (a trumpet player), and Emily (a flute player). And here we have Sarah (a clarinet player) with our Tau Beta Sigma Secretary Jenny! I love this picture because I think they look like they could be related! It's awesome. <3
Iota Ps - One of these days I will get my over use of exclamation points under control. I promise. Hello, my name is Brittany and I am an over exclamation point user. |
