As always, we had tons of patrons who asked the tired (and slightly annoying) questions like, “do you take Bear Bucks?” But we also had a couple interactions that were unexpected and awesome!
For example, one woman walked up and instead of checking out the candy for sale, she stared at Brittany’s nametag really hard. When we asked if we could help her she said that she just wanted to see if Tau Beta Sigma was still in charge of Waco Hall concessions. She went on to tell us that her name was Mary Thompson and she was best buds with Janet West Miller back in the day. Mary said it was her idea to partner with Waco Hall to fundraise for their, then, brand new chapter. WOW! We got to meet (and take a picture with) one of the founding members of Iota as well as the founder of Waco Hall concessions! What a great way to kick of the year!
And just when we thought things couldn’t get any better, Baylor President Ken Starr walked up : ) We spotted him waiting outside the doors to go in the auditorium and a few of us decided we HAD to go talk to him. So we walked up, introduced our selves and proceeded to tell Judge Starr how much we love him and appreciate his support of BUGWB. He was so sweet and seemed genuinely happy to talk to us. We love you Judge Starr!!! : ) Telling President Starr you are in BUGWB is so fun because he always responds with something along the lines of, "A hundred and eight years of the golden wave! Directed by Dr. Isaiah Odajima! I love the Band! What a tradition!" Did you Know that during games he runs out with the line in his jersey and then goes inside and changes really fast into his GWB polo, then comes to wave at the band, THEN he changes into whatever he wants to wear for real. Every game! He changes three times. Just for the band. We are so special. c:
And now a few words from our awesome new concessions manager this semester Emily Hudson!
As the Concessions Manager this semester, I wanted to update the office a bit and add a bunch of cool new stuff! So first, I worked really hard this summer to make a whole handbook for exactly how concessions should be run so that everyone would be on the same page. It has everything – dress code, etiquette, procedures for how to set up the booths, and much more!
In fact, here is a picture of DQ and I as the super-stern Concessions Managers! We take our jobs of selling candy and drinks seriously! c: (as you can probably tell, this was a posed picture. But we are silly so this is what you get!)
Thanks Emily!!
