Hey sisters!!My name is Leanna and I am a junior :)
I play flute (piccolo) and I am a squad leader this year.
I had such a blast at leadership retreat! Being on uniform staff last year, I was excited to be a part of the squad leader team this year!
We had leadership retreat at Camp Buckner. It was a great retreat place! It's about 2.5ish hours away! Once we arrived at camp, we got settled and had lunch. Shortly after, we had a leadership training session. These sessions were discussion led by our leadership book "Leadership Challenge."

We discussed many ways we can improve the band and how we can effect the mood of the band based on our attitudes during rehearsal and about every day life. Our motto was "Model the Way." and we were challenged as leadership to be great leaders by being the type of leader by whom we would want to be led by.  We not only did inside (air conditioned :D) training, but we also did marching rehearsal! (YAYYY!) During that time, we re-learned the marching technique and got comfortable with it. We were able to clean it and ask specific questions that we had not had the chance to answer last season.

Don't worry! One of the biggest things we learned was to HAVE FUN! I am a very bubbly person and I love to crack a good/corny joke every once in a while to lighten the mood of rehearsals. The directors decided that we would have one time a rehearsal that would be dedicate for "Band Fun Time." We are going to take a few minutes to tell funny stories or laugh. Sometimes we are so focused that we forget to have fun and we forget what we love about the marching band! If you have a better name for our "Band Fun Time," please email us and let us know!!!

I am SOO excited for this season as it has begun. I know that this retreat helped me be able to bond with other leaders in other sections and gave us the ability to become a unified body. I am definitely feeling this bond transferring into my section even though it has not even been a week!

This is a picture of the flute squad leaders. There are 5 total l, 3 of which are in TBS :)
