That one time that TBS ruined whipped cream for ever...

It's about time I talk about crush!  Only one word can describe the awesomeness that was this event.

 Whipped Cream.

Before I get to all of that nonsense I'm going to step back and talk about the other noteworthy parts of the event.  The theme this year was Clowning Around with Tau Beta Sigma.  It was a very cute carnival theme that one of our wonderful members Sara O'Brien came up with.  For those of you that don't know, crush is an event where each member of the sorority invites multiple guys (usually 3-5) to come hang out and have fun.  We always make a point to invite all the Beta Alpha members, and we like to include some of their rushees too. Many of the people who get invited are not rushing or members, but are just our friends.  We just like getting a chance to hang out with people outside of band.

This is my favorite picture of Sara from the event! She's so little and the megaphone is so big!

Sisterhood Committee did a great job of setting everything up in a way that made things look very carnival-esque.  Every time you deal with an event like this you are straddling the line between cheesy/corny and totally fun.  Sara and her committee totally hit "fun" with the whole concept.  In order to make the event as carnival like as possible, we had lots of fun childhood candy and silly games for everyone to play.

I think my second favorite booth to watch (you'll hear about my first favorite here in a moment) was this next one.  We had a cake walk set up to where there were two circles worth of chairs, and the rules were that you were supposed to walk around the chairs until the person working the event called that time was up.  Then you had to rush to a chair and sit down.  All the chairs were numbered, and if the number you were sitting in was called then you won the cake!  Well, some of the boys got a little creative with this concept and decided the best strategy was to sit in as MANY chairs as possible.  Obviously this gave them the biggest advantage.

The real kicker that made this crush such a big hit was that it was anonymous!  No one knew who invited them, and it was a game throughout the event to try to guess who it was.  Each TBS member created three clues for their crushes and every person who was crushed was given a clue at a designated time.  Once a person was ready to guess who crushed them, they brought them to a designated booth (the best booth at the event!) to make the guess.  Well this booth was the pie booth.  If the boy was right, he got to pie the TBS member in the face, and if the boy was wrong and agreed to it then the TBS member got to pie them in the face.  This happened a lot.  A LOT.

And of course we had MUCH more whipped cream than we anticipated needing, so after a certain point (once most people guessed who crushed them) people started giving random people pies in the face!  ... And as any event where you invite over a certain number of Beta Alpha men goes, things got crazy fast! There were surprise pie attacks, throwing pies, and double and triple behind the back pies in the face.  Needless to say, we had whipped cream everywhere.  I'm going to also venture to say that after the pie-ing in the face system of "guess your crush" went out the window people ended up getting about an average of 8 pies in the face.  That's a lot of whipped cream to end up in your nose and in your hair.

In case you were wondering about the title of this post.  This is the reason why - the Iota chapter smelled of whipped cream for the next day or so no matter how many times we showered.  I think the smell was actually stuck in my nose and I was convinced that after two showers and a bath within 24 hours of the event I STILL had whipped cream in my hair!

So that was Crush!!  I hope you all enjoyed reading about it because we enjoyed being there!

PS - Later that day after we all got home Brenna cut a piece of pie for herself and a few people in our apartment and served dessert.  Before handing out plates she asked (completely serious - as if she had forgotten about the crush event that day), "Does anyone want whipped cream on top?"  Every person in the apartment groaned out of disgust.  Poor Brenna already had whipped cream on hers.  I'm pretty sure she just threw away the slice and didn't even eat dessert.

Hey everybody!

So I am waist deep in planning for Crush! It is all very exciting!  Especially since it is my first TBS Crush!! This year, we are having a carnival crush called “Clowning Around!” The cool thing about this crush is it is also anonymous! That’s right, the boys do not know who crushed them. We are going to give them clues throughout Crush and they get to guess who their crush is! If they guess right they get to pie the TBS member in the face, but if they guess wrong the crushee gets a pie in the face!

This is what the shirts look like! The very amazing Emily Hudson helped design them!

We are going to be playing lots of different fun games at the carnival, like a relay race with a 6-legged relay as well as the “bat spin” where the person has to spin around on the bat and then try running forward. It’s going to be lots of craziness and fun wrapped in one!

Also, my committee is working on new sisterhood tank tops. The design is below. They are going to be awesome neon colors and I can’t wait for them to get in! (Note the design is not made of polka dots - it's made of turtle dots!)

Lastly, we have to order a new Tau the Turtle because, sadly, the previous one was lost. So I have looked high and low for a very cute replacement and I think I have found a winner! So please welcome the newest member of Tau Beta Sigma!

He should arrive in 8-10 business days! I am sure there will be more, and better, pictures of him coming soon.

If any of our alumni have any cool stories about the originations of Iotas first Tau the Turtle we would love to hear your stories in our comments section!  Let us know how the first one came to be!

I believe that’s all that Sisterhood committee is working on! We did start practice for intramural flag football and we are going to totally dominate, but what else is new?

MOTS,

Sara O’Brien
