Hey there everyone!
Since we're coming to the conclusion of week two in the MEP, it's been a whirlwind for everyone! Our wonderful new class of membership candidates are taking the MEP in full stride now in learning our national information. My hopes are that through all of the time they spend together they all learn from each other and love each other as sisters-in-training should.
Thanks for reading and MLITB!

I am super excited to be an MC for Tau Beta Sigma! I love helping serve the band as much as I can and this is a great opportunity to grow in this aspect. Both of my parents are music teachers, and my dad was a KPsi here at Baylor. I already love all of my MC sisters and I can’t wait to see what these 5 weeks hold in store for us!

I have a sister and whenever we're together we love to take silly pictures.  Here's one of us waiting in line at Tower of Terror in California Adventure.

I also have two Jack Russell Terriers that are extremely energetic and love to play with old soccer balls. This is them playing tug-a-war.

Nicky's Reflection of Her First Year!

Hey everyone!

I can’t believe it has been almost an entire year since the Sole Sisters’ journey with Tau Beta Sigma began! As Iota prepares to begin our Membership Education Process I can’t help but think back upon my time in TBS thus far. I am going to share some of my favorite memories in Tau Beta, so get ready!

1) Sole Sisters

"Pledge classes" *cough cough* tend to grow very close during the MEP and last year around this time I was so looking forward to that! At first, it was not what I had expected; getting to know each other was difficult because we were so different. Imagine a cheerleader, video game enthusiast, and rock jock in the same room for extended periods of time!

I remember the first night of our MEP Ashley and Kelsey were explaining to the rest of us how hard it is to maintain proper carrying position with their instruments (baritone and flute). The conversation got a little heated until it was brought to attention the strength and discipline it takes to march a clarinet ;-)

I love each and every Sole Sister with all my heart! Our differences were actually our pledge class’ strength; we learned how to accept and love each other for our differences and had a lot of fun doing it. We gained new perspectives, and I believe we each brought something to Tau Beta that’s unique.

P.S. If you haven’t heard yet Ashley and I will be roomies next year! We are very excited about it and already have big plans for our apartment. I am thankful for Tau Beta and Sole Sisters--with out them I probably would never have met my great friend and future room mate, bridesmaid, etc.. lol

2) My bigs!

I am incredibly blessed to be Sara Bitting’s little sister! She is the hardest working, strongest, most selfless person I have ever met! From learning a new instrument and changing my major to sharing the office of service chair with her, Sara has been there supporting and helping me since day one.

My favorite memories with Sara have to include my first euphonium lesson (she taught me how to buzz after 6 years of playing clarinet, you can imagine how that went!) and time time she made me yummy dinner to make my Mastering Chemistry experience less painful :-P

I’m thankful for the little things too, like walking to meetings together and serving BUGWB together before and after every rehearsal. Then there was my first (and only) car accident-- although remembering it is scary it also reminds me how blessed I am to have her in my life! My car was totaled and I had caused her injuries, but she just kept asking if I was okay, giving me hugs, and telling me everything was going to be alright. That’s the love of a big sister right there!

Here is a picture of us working a Sing concession on my birthday, right before Sole Sisters officially became members of Tau Beta Sigma. We had way too much fun doing food run (we were both under the weather, so maybe it was all the medicine?)!

This is my big brother, Sergio Rodriguez’s huge family. It is huge because Serge is an amazing person! He’s always up for a good laugh or deep conversation, and he’s an awesome listener.

As you can see, he has a ton of little brothers and then there’s me-- can you say spoiled?!? The first time we all spent time together, he let me ride in the front of the car with him and control the radio and AC. I miss him so much!

3) Receptions!

So I know receptions aren’t normally one’s favorite part of service, but I actually enjoyed working receptions last fall. Really they’re just time to spend with sisters and brothers!

The very first concert reception didn’t go so well; we couldn’t find the table or punch bowls, the table cloths were dirty and the frame was broken. Being service chair, I was getting all sorts of communication from older members: phone calls, texts, pigeon carriers (just kidding lol) but no one could seem to figure out where things were or how to fix it. I was so stressed. In the end all of the items were lent to us and we worked with what we had. After it was all over I thanked Josh, Kappa Kappa Psi Beta Alpha’s service chair, for remaining so calm, and his reply was “things always work out”. That phrase has stuck with me ever since; whenever I start to feel really stressed about a situation I remember it’s not forever!

At my last reception as service chair, everything went much smoother. That is, until Patty walked into McCrary Music Building carrying dinner for his brothers. As he was giving them their change a penny fell into the punch bowl, which was already full of Dr. Pepper float! After Adam scrambled to locate and remove the penny, Josh, calm as always, instructed them to make new DP floats with the extra Dr. Pepper we had.

Just as they had cleaned up the mess Patty opened the extra Dr. Pepper bottle and out it spilled (or should I say exploded) onto the table and floor. What a night! I will definitely miss working with these K Psi’s!

Lastly, here is a fun memory from the joint Halloween rush event.. no explanation needed!

That’s all for now folks, I’ve got to go get ready for formal interviews tonight :-) Hope you enjoyed reading about some of my experiences in Tau Beta Sigma!
