Let’s start easy. What’s your favorite color?
GREEN!

What was YOUR favorite rush event to attend before you were a member?
My favorite rush event by far was the Mayborn Museum rush event. I didn’t really know membership too well until that one. Before that I was a little shy but after that I felt really comfortable being silly with my soon to be sisters!

If you could do your Tau Beta experience all over again would you (MEP and all c: )? And Why? No,I wouldn’t want to accidentally change anything about it. It has been the best thing to happen to me since I started college. c:

What has been your favorite official Tau Beta Sigma moment?
My favorite TBS moment was definitely during the Clowning Around with Tau Beta Sigma Crush this year. Most people don’t find getting ‘pied’ in the face a pleasant experience but I was surrounded by all of my closest friends (and crushes lol) How could it not be super fun?

What has been your favorite “non-TBS” TBS moment?
When seven of us crammed into a mustang and drove the wrong way on the road by the library! I was laying across my sisters’ laps in the back seat and had almost no idea what was actually happening until we back to driving “legally” and everyone stopped screaming lol

How do you feel about the Beta Alpha/Iota relations?
I think the relations are great because Beta Alpha is such a nice group of guys. Each and every one of them are great friends of mine and so much fun to hang out with <3

What’s the best TBS or Iota thing you own and who gave it to you?
My red carnation and white rose. Every time I see them I think of my two amazing littles/best friends <3

Time to learn about Kathryn!

Let’s start easy. What’s your favorite color?

Green. Gold. Blue. I’m oddly partial to silver. My apartment is mainly black and white. So, as you can see, I’m not exactly good at making up my mind.

What was YOUR favorite rush event to attend before you were a member?

I’d have to say my favorite rush event was the Pancake Break. I think it was actually the first one I attended, because I only made it to two and a half. I say “and a half” because I was rehearsing for the Baylor Christmas Concert at the same time as the Sugar Rush, so I had to run in really fast for about 10 minutes when the orchestra had a break.

If you could do your Tau Beta experience all over again would you (MEP and all c: )? And Why? Oh, yes. A million times yes. I’ve made the best, closest friends I would ever hope to make in TBS, and I love my MC sisters so much. Yes, MEP was crazy, but it was crazy fun. And if I wasn’t in Tau Beta, I wouldn’t have my awesome big sister (who I’m going to talk about next!)

Show us a picture of you and your bigs!

This is my big sister, Lynn, and I during the snowfall in the middle of MEP last year. It was crazy awesome how we’d just finished something, and it just started snowing. I had on two hats, so she borrowed mine. It’s funny how we look kind of like actual sisters in this picture, and I love it!

Picture

Kyle is my big brother, and awesome. He’s been such an amazing brother and I know that he’s always there for me to go to make me study (he’s very good at that). He’s graduating this year, and I know that I’ll miss him so much

Picture

I know you’ve already seen this picture, but I love it so much that I have to put it on here again! I miss my grandbig a lot, and I love this picture of our branch of our family!

What has been your favorite official Tau Beta Sigma moment?
My favorite official Tau Beta moment has to have been Formal. It was just tons of fun to get to hang out with all my friends at the end of an awesome year.

What has been your favorite “non-TBS” TBS moment? Just…all the times I’ve spent hanging out with all my friends who I wouldn’t know nearly as closely if it weren’t for TBS. I love those times.

Draw a picture of a turtle.

Picture
I TOTALLY baked this turtle, y’all! Totally! See! Er…

How do you feel about the Beta Alpha/Iota relations? I love all of my brothers so much! I’m so glad that Iota and Beta Alpha are so close that I really get to know all the guys. I’ve made so many awesome friends that I would probably have never made (being a music major and shut up in McCrary most of the time, haha) and now I can’t imagine life without them!

What’s the best TBS or Iota thing you own and who gave it to you? I’d have to say the best TBS related gift (other than my AWESOME sister hat that my big made me) would be my birthday gift last year. Lynn, Kim Jones (one of my MC sisters), and Erin (another one) knew that I’d been feeling kinda down because my birthday falls just after the end of the spring semester, and so they surprised me by sneaking into my dorm and completely making my door awesome. I’ve kept every bit of the decorations off the door, and they’re now scattered across my apartment.

Picture
Isn’t it wonderful?!?
The second best TBS thing that I own has to be a lovely turtle given to me by one of our life members, Jessamyn Carter.

Lynn's Survey!

Something new I want to start doing was a short survey by all of the members just to get you all to know them a little bit better. This is just something to hopefully show a little bit more of who they are as a person and as a TBS member c:

Lynn is first!

Let’s start easy. What’s your favorite color?

Purple!!! I mean, blue and white… no, green and gold… oh darn, I don’t know, I am pulled in so many directions! I thought this was supposed to be an easy question!?!?!?!

What was YOUR favorite rush event to attend before you were a member?

Haha, well this is a particularly funny question for me because I actually attended only two rush events before I joined TBS; so I guess I will say the kickball joint rush event with K Psi (mostly because I LOVE kickball, which is really funny because I am not actually that good at it, lol). The other rush event I attended before I joined TBS was the Mayborn Museum rush event. We did a scavenger hunt at Mayborn Museum trying to find certain random items (like whoolly mammoth horns in the museum). That one was really fun too!

If you could do your Tau Beta experience all over again would you (MEP and all c: )? And Why?

If I could do it again, would I still do it? Yes. Absolutely. It’s been amazing. Yes, I am really busy. Yes, it takes a lot of energy some times. But the relationship I have with my sisters is just priceless. Whether it’s running by a sister and slapping her butt during rehearsal (which I “supposedly” do often), or being able to be with my little sister when she needs someone to talk to, or just goofing off with my pledge class, this sisterhood is something that I cherish so much. With the one thing we have in common (a love of band and music), we bring together so many differing personalities and experiences and strengths, it’s just beautiful how it all seems to mesh so well.

Show us a picture of you and your bigs!

Picture
This is my little sister Kathryn (the short one), my big sister Amelia (the tall one), and me (the one in the middle)! Oh snap, I guess I should have read the directions… That was a picture of my big and my little! Oops!

Picture
So that’s my big sister (making the lovely face!), Amelia!

Picture
And that’s my big brother, Joel. And my big sister… again. Both of them graduated from Baylor this past year, and I miss them SO much.

What has been your favorite official Tau Beta Sigma moment?

Oooh, this is a really hard one. Hmmmm. Well, can I say the entire MEP? That was just a wonderful moment in and of itself!

What has been your favorite “non-TBS” TBS moment?

Okay, so here’s a fun recent story! It was an impromptu dinner with some of my pledge sisters at Olive Garden. We literally decided that we wanted Olive Garden and went at the last minute. I think I was wearing like shorts and a tshirt (and looked kinda crummy), but it was so much fun flirting with the waiter… I mean, spending time at Olive Garden with my sisters. ;-)

Draw a picture of a turtle.

Picture
I totally drew him. Can’t you tell? I am such a good artist! (Isn’t he cute with his glasses, what a nerd! Yay, I love nerds! Especially turtle nerds! Probably because I am a bit of a turtle nerd myself, but that’s okay! You won’t judge me for it… right?!)

How do you feel about the Beta Alpha/Iota relations?

How do I feel about then? Well, since I love boys… Haha. The relationship we have with our boys is really outstanding. It’s always weird going to conventions and seeing the other chapters who don’t really get along with their brother/sister chapters. I just love how easily we get along and how well we work together. Like this past game, Leanna and Will (the two service chairs of TBS and K Psi, respectively) worked so well to coordinate all of the things necessary to bring to collegestation and making it all work together. I am always so happy to see how well we get along, work together, and love on each other.

What’s the best TBS or Iota thing you own and who gave it to you?

Probably my ever-increasing supply of turtles. Each turtle has its own story.

Like one turtle was given to me by my “secret sister”, Kim J. last semester (which was really funny because I was actually hers but she wanted to thank me for all the goodies I had given her, it was SO sweet). And that turtle rides on my BUGWB backpack.

Another turtle rides on my BUGWB backpack with Kim’s turtle too! This turtle was given to me by my MEP class beau, Andy. He gave all of Serendipity these cute little turtles that have blue lasers on them! That turtle is also very adorable!

I have another set of turtles (3 to be exact) that are paper turtles! These turtles came from Jenny, Sara, and David (he’s a graduated K Psi). Last year, for my birthday, they decorated my door (and part of the hallway leading up to my door, lol) with streamers and turtles and all sorts of fun stuff. It was so cool. And I definitely kept those turtles!

And then I have these really cute turtle pencil sharpeners that came from last year when I was Keeper! They were the sisterhood birthday presents, so every sister with a birthday in the spring got one! I have one that is blue and white (yay!) and another one that I use for sharpening my eyeliner pencils that is pink and blue!

Okay, and I will save you the rest, but I have a LOT more turtles… Let’s just say I really like turtles… Sic ‘em Tau Beta!

Leanna's Story!

10/16/2011

Hello! My name is Leanna! I'm the service chair for Tau Beta.  This is a two part post, first I wanted to tell you about a thing I did called operation beautiful! This part is taken straight from their website (operationbeautiful.com):

"The goal of the Operation Beautiful website is to end negative self-talk or “Fat Talk.”  ... I hope it helps readers realize how truly toxic negative self-talk is  — it hurts you emotionally, spiritually, and physically.Through my own experiences fighting Fat Talk, I’ve realized the power behind an anonymous act such as Operation Beautiful."

On Wednesday a few people and myself went around campus with chalk and sticky notes and chalked and put sticky notes all over the place! Personally, I know that I do not realize the effect that the negative self talk has on myself and others. Operation Beautiful helps people to become more aware of the effect that their words have on people and the way that they view themself. Just be aware that every word that comes out of your mouth has either a positive or negative impact on the people around you and yourself. God has made each and every one of us into beautiful people and if we were different, we wouldn't be us. God called YOU out just the way you are for a specific purpose. If you don't see that now, hopefully he will reveal that to you later on. But please just keep in mind that you are fearfully and wonderfully made! (Psalm 139:14)

Next is a story about my MC class.

One of the newly found traditions in my MC class is to go out to eat after meeting. I'm not sure why or when this started, but for most of us, we just always go out to eat together after meeting.  Sometimes we go to Buschs, because of their 1/2 price meal for Baylor students, and we normally see a good majority of the band there! It's quite funny actually! We joke about the band following us everywhere! Most recently we went to Cici's when we turned in the wrong turn, scarfed down a macaroni and cheese pizza, and ate wayy too many cinnamon rolls! Most of the time, like we Tau Beta's do, we talk about food, band, or boys. We share many laughs, go on many rants, and share our love in the bond. I just wanted to share with you a little bit bout some silly things we do together as a sisterhood/MC class :) I know my sisters are there for me no mater what happens or no matter what I go through. My dad was recently in the hospital trying to figure out what, if anything, was wrong with his heart and my Tau Beta sisters were a strong group of girls who I could ask to pray for me, to love on me, and to tell me that everything  was okay, not matter what the outcome! If you are wondering, my dad is fine now, he just had a small blockage in a minor artery (Praise God!). It is just so comforting to know that no matter what may happen in your life, you have sisters who will be your strong bridge when you need them the most!

ITB,

Leanna Mason

Flag Football!

10/9/2011

Time for more intramural football! Iota isn't good at many intramural sports, but we do rock the flag football!  It's probably because we have such an awesome college football team to model ourselves after this year c: Every couple of years we rotate through which intramural sport we are going to be excited about and play.  We did the ultimate frisbee thing for a little bit, which we all enjoyed playing and practicing.  Unfortunately that didn't last long when we got to the game and realized the co-ed teams we were playing had only one girl on them and were much more "in it to win it" than we were.  Then we tried basketball.  That was fun, but more of us were learning how to dribble the ball than running drills in practice.  Needless to say that wasn't our strongest sport either.  This fall we had dodgeball which proved to be pretty easy and quick.  Just pick up the ball and hit the other people.  Who can't be good at that?  But let's go back two years ago to when Jeanne introduced us all to flag football.  This one stuck with us, and we're finally getting pretty good at it!
Picture

This year (just like the last two years, because when you find something that works you keep it!) our quarterback is Jeanne Knepper and she is a freaking BEAST with the ball!  I'm telling you, she knows what she's doing and it shows! Go Jeanne!  She's getting the team nice and trained up for some intramural plays offs this year (hopefully)!
Picture
(I know the picture above is not of Jeanne actually acting as quarterback, it's just the only one I have of her so we're gonna just pretend c: )

The girls who played flag football this week did such a good job! The game was really exciting and back and forth the whole time.  We played against a team who had a fully stacked offensive and defensive line and managed to hold our own against them with all eight people that we have who played.  Go Iota!  We ended up pulling through in the end with the lead and winning the game.

Wahoo! Go Team!
Picture
The are the "excited we won" faces ...

Picture
... And these are their "hardcore football faces"
And a special note from Jeanne:

"OMGOSH first flag football post and it is so great! Hahaha :)
Just wanted to give a shoutout to the whole team for being so incredibly AMAZING!! I may be quarterback, but the team would be nothing without the amazing line that defends me and the super awesome receivers that catch the game winning touchdowns!

Everyone has been so excited for flag football this season and that brings me so much joy. It is so much fun to get to work together with my sisters in a much different capacity than usual. This game takes concentration, strength (both physical and mental), and teamwork. Our team shines in all of these areas!! No matter what is happening in the game, we are all there pushing each other to keep playing hard and, most importantly, to keep our heads held high! We strive to make every game a positive experience in which we come together as sisters and as a team and also hopefully get a win!

This past game was so intense! We played a team that had some great running plays (ones we hadn't practiced defending), so our team had to adjust and do our best to stop them from gaining yards. Brenna and Christina dominated on the defensive line and sacked the quarterback numerous times causing them to lose yards. :) If the other team happened to get past the line we had Jenny, Sara, Becky, and all the other girls ready to pull flags! I'm pretty sure EVERYONE on our team dove (or slipped?) in the grass trying to pull flags. Brenna had some nice battle-wounds (including a HUGE bruise on her knee) and I'm sure a lot of others did, too!! Leanna always helps keep me positive in the game, especially when she asks me, "are we allowed to make noise?" and then proceeds to scream very loudly to distract the other team! Jenny and Lynn protected me so well on offense and we even got to pull our classic "freight train" move with Lynn as center! (YES, we DO have real plays!! "Secret Treasure", "Chick-a-chick-aw", "double duty", "blooper", "Jeabre" just to name a few!) I had Sara, Becky, and Brenna running all over the place on offense trying to get some cool passes and we all totally rocked the epic pass - epic catch scene :)

Pretty much I love flag football and I love my sisters. I just wanted to add some more details about this killer game from last week onto the post so all could share in the experience :). We play again tomorrow and I'm sure it will be even better than last time!

Sic'em TBS flag football!

ITB,
Jeanne"

Thanks for reading everybody!
