My Name is Erin and I am a JA in this here fine Iota chapter of Tau Beta Sigma :D I am really loving experiencing Tau Beta in the Fall semester as rushing is going on! Even more exciting being on this side of things :D An amazing thing the Iota Chapter hosted this past Saturday was an event called Musical Bear Scouts! It was a workshop for Girl Scouts (juniors and cadets) to earn two of their music badges! We have never hosted an event like this before, but one of my amazing sisters, LEANNA MASON, brought it all together and it worked so perfectly! We arrived to set up at 7:30 in the a.m. and the girls started coming in at 8:30 to register and pick up some of the cutest shirts ever :D It was a little hard to be up so early but another one of my amazing sisters, Christina Griffin, brought us all doughnuts :D They were just what many of us needed :D The event officially began around 9:30 with activity rotations in which the girls would satisfy the requirements for their first badge :D I had the privilege of running station number 5, where the cadets got to help the juniors make musical instruments! We made tambourines and it was so great to see the older girls connecting with and helping the younger ones :D Some of the decorations on our top notch paper plate tambourines were quite creative. I had a great time connecting with some of the girls as well! I was a girl scout, so this event had a special place in my heart :D After the girls completed their 1st badge, it was lunch time and I was able to chat with some of the parents and girls some more and ask them if they were enjoying the event. So much positive response! It was so encouraging :D Also got to meet one of the troops that came up from Round Rock(my hometown)!!!! We then switched up the stations and had the girls get started on rotations for their next badge, and I had the honor of working with the song artist Jeanne Knepper :D In our station the girls had to create their very own silly song by changing the words to a tune they all already knew. These girls were so Silly!!! :D We had songs about chocolate moose and dancing ponies on roller skates all the way to dancing gummy bears and old ladies crossing the street. I don’t think I have to say our station was pretty exciting and filled with laughter :D Not to mention the addition of dance moves!! To sum up the event, the cadets conducted a band of juniors playing on their newly created tambourines. It was a beautiful sound to hear :D Everyone involved had a great time and we couldn’t have done it without the help of some of our K-Psi BROTHERS! We love them so much :D So, with 2 badges completed by the girl scouts and some exhausted Betas and Psis, we cleaned up and called it a day :D Oh, and not to mention all the fundraiser money we left the event with! :D I loved hanging out and getting to know some of the girls throughout the event. They have some pretty cool stories; some made up and some real, but I liked them all :D Putting on this event made me proud to be in Tau Beta Sigma because of the impact it had on not just the girls, but their mothers as well. This event was truly service, and all of these women are thankful for :D
Thanks for reading! Erin Seifert Hello Sisters! My name is Jenny and I’m the History Committee Chair for the Fall semester! I’m here to give you an update on all the super awesome things our committee has been working on. We have been taking lots and lots of photos to chronicle all the great things we have been doing so far this year. You have seen some of these pictures on the blog already from our rush events. There are tons more pictures though where those have come from. Here are a few of my favorites from the most recent game against TCU. Sara, Leanna, and Lynn happily serving the band during game day practice Baylor and TCU Tau Betas talking after we sang together after the game. One of the things we have decided to do this year in the committee is to digitize the large amount of photos and scrapbooks in Tau Beta’s collection. We will be taking high resolution photos and scanning pictures and scrapbook pages to create a digital database. This will allow us to preserve the pictures from deteriorating due to age and help us protect our memories from any other types of damage. Kathryn came up with this idea and we are super excited to begin working on it soon. At the moment we are starting to collect pictures and scrapbooks into one location. Another thing we are working on is sending out notices via snail mail to let our alumnae know about the switch from mail out newsletters to the new website! So be on the lookout for your notification! I’m super excited about the great things going on in both TBS and the History Committee. Hope to share more photos from our fun times soon! MLITB, Jenny Bates Hi Sisters! I wanted to do something different for the blog this week, so I made a video talking about where I live, who lives around me and how awesome everyone is :) I hope you enjoy it and I hope it makes you feel closer to the current Iota active members! :) I love living around all my sisters because if one of us is having a bad day, is bored, or needs to borrow a cup of milk (thanks Bekka and Taylor!), we're all just a knock away.... which definitely is 10 times better than being a phone call away :D Now, please enjoy this super cute picture of a turtle! <3 Heather Hey everybody! So I am waist deep in planning for Crush! It is all very exciting! Especially since it is my first TBS Crush!! This year, we are having a carnival crush called “Clowning Around!” The cool thing about this crush is it is also anonymous! That’s right, the boys do not know who crushed them. We are going to give them clues throughout Crush and they get to guess who their crush is! If they guess right they get to pie the TBS member in the face, but if they guess wrong the crushee gets a pie in the face! This is what the shirts look like! The very amazing Emily Hudson helped design them! We are going to be playing lots of different fun games at the carnival, like a relay race with a 6-legged relay as well as the “bat spin” where the person has to spin around on the bat and then try running forward. It’s going to be lots of craziness and fun wrapped in one! Also, my committee is working on new sisterhood tank tops. The design is below. They are going to be awesome neon colors and I can’t wait for them to get in! (Note the design is not made of polka dots - it's made of turtle dots!) Lastly, we have to order a new Tau the Turtle because, sadly, the previous one was lost. So I have looked high and low for a very cute replacement and I think I have found a winner! So please welcome the newest member of Tau Beta Sigma! He should arrive in 8-10 business days! I am sure there will be more, and better, pictures of him coming soon. If any of our alumni have any cool stories about the originations of Iotas first Tau the Turtle we would love to hear your stories in our comments section! Let us know how the first one came to be! I believe that’s all that Sisterhood committee is working on! We did start practice for intramural flag football and we are going to totally dominate, but what else is new?
