Super Hero Day!

Did you know that our very own Erin Seifert is the spirit chair for the GWB this year?

Well if you didn't know how spirited she was before you will now.. Oh, and she really likes Orange.

Sara as spiderman!

I would just like to add a snippet about how absolutely cute Sara is.  When I went to go take this picture of her she set all of her stuff down and then got into her silly adorable pose.  Then afterwards Zach (her fiancé, if you recall from a few posts back), came up and asked what she was doing.  She giggled and ran up to him and said, "Haha, that's my spiderman pose!" She is sickeningly cute and adorable and I'm so glad that she's my sister.  I'm not sure how those go together, but they do.  Trust me on that one.  c:
Picture
Katie as the Hulk!

Note: After this spirit day idea we decided that at some point in everyones life when they are angry they should be allowed to scream "HULK (or what ever your name is) ANGRY!" and rip their shirt off (assuming you have an under shirt on like katie does in this picture). It would probably be very therapeutic!
Picture
Brenna and Jeanne dressed up as America.  Get it? They are all red, white, and blue! They also put their "stoic" faces on for this picture.  When they do costumes they commit!

One of my favorites that I did not get a picture of were Christina and Leanna dressed as the Mario brothers.  It was intense!  I loved it so much that I might ask them to dress up again at some point just so I can get a picture for the blog.  Does that make me crazy.  ... Don't answer that.

Those are all of my spirit day picture from this last Friday.  I feel like a blogging failure, and for that I'm sorry guys.  BUT it was for a good reason!  We had After Dark after practice, and we had to leave rehearsal early to get there to start selling concessions.  You will hear more about that at a later time c:

FTB!

I had planned on writing a blog post about my week with Tau the Turtle (because my awesome sisters had me picked for Tau of the week this week!) and I took him everywhere with me to prepare for it. Literally, I took him everywhere. Tau attended some really great political science classes, band practice, flag football practice, sisterhood dinner, and, strangely enough, the Emergency Room at Hillcrest Hospital! So, in typical Jeanne fashion, I’m changing my decision last minute and writing this about the crazy experience this past Thursday evening.

It started as a pretty normal evening studying in the living room with some friends when out of nowhere Adam (a KPsi) opened the front door and walked… or should I say limped… into the room. He had been playing basketball, hit his ankle on the basketball pole, and his ankle was literally the size of a grapefruit and was already starting to turn purple. Brad and Kyle, two other KPsi’s, and I immediately got him some ice and began to pretty much interrogate him about what happened and how he was feeling. When Brittany came home about ten minutes later, she stepped inside, saw his ankle, and “strongly encouraged” (demanded) that he go to the hospital.

So, of course, Adam, Brittany, Brad, Kyle, and I grab our stuff, pile into my car, and drove to the hospital! Actually… we drove to Taco Bell first. BUT, once we arrived at the hospital we were focused and buckled down to business. Kidding again… we were all pretty hyper and some strange conversations and crazy pictures ensued.

As pictures were being taken, Brittany and I insisted that they were all “FTB” and completely needed (FTB meaning “for the blog”).

We started with individual portraits with Tau:

Clearly, Adam was the most excited. Also, if you’re wondering what Brittany is doing she was making a monkey face and kept asking, “Can you tell the Tau is making the monkey face?!”.

While we attempted to work on our homework in the waiting room, we took more pictures and kept thinking of all the ways we could incorporate Tau’s name in the things around us.

First of all, we were at the hospi-TAU-l.

We had just eaten TAU-co Bell.

I was studying his-TAU-ry.

Kyle was fascinated with the fish TAU-nk.

Adam was reading En-TAU-tainment Weekly

And of course, what late night is good without some mons-TAU-r energy drink?! ;)

When Adam was finally called back into a room, Brittany and I went to stay with him. After the doctor took an x-ray of his ankle he pretty much immediately fell asleep. Brittany and I attempted to do homework for a while, but we all know the feeling at 2:30 AM where the giggles start happening and really, productivity is practically impossible. That hit us and we put our homework away and began taking videos of: Adam, a skunk puppet from Brittany’s purse, modeling techniques, us taking videos of the other person, and much more. We did all of this while trying to be really quiet and let Adam sleep, and trust me, this was a very difficult task.

It was about 4 AM when we were finally able to leave the hospital. Adam’s ankle will be ok but had to be on crutches and it is still very swollen. We piled back into my car and headed home after an awesome 5 hour ER extravaganza.

I know some of you reading this are probably wondering “why in the world is she telling us this dumb story about her late-night trip to the hospital?”. Good question!

I am graduating in May. Yes, this is a scary thought, and no, I do not know for sure what I am doing when I graduate. I am going to miss TBS so much I can’t even begin to describe it. Sure, I’m going to miss getting to serve the bands and doing all of our business-type things, but what I’m REALLY going to miss are the times like this one. It’s not the stressful meeting about new budget caps or constitutional amendments that I will be looking back on fondly when I graduate. I will look back and remember the truly meaningful times with my sisters, which aren’t the planned events or meetings. I have done so much with my sisters. I’ll remember the random dance parties in my living room where we jumped around to loud music to relieve stress. I’ll remember dressing up for every BUGWB spirit day, usually last minute, and us pulling of some really great costumes. I’ll remember driving around on the first night of ZOMBIES and us figuring out immediately who the alpha zombie was! I’ll remember when I was too upset to do anything but watch P.S. I Love You and there were only about 5 minutes of us NOT crying. I’ll remember putting off homework and us going and playing in the snow because apparently snow in Texas is pretty crazy. I’ll remember putting bump-its in our hair and running around just to be silly. I’ll remember all the trips to the Emergency Room (because no, this was NOT the first time we’ve been to the ER) and trying to find a fun situation out of a bad one. I’ll remember my sisters baking me “Jeanne-friendly” desserts and getting to eat Key Lime Pie for the first time. I’ll remember the intramural flag football games with our nicknames “Soul Crusher”, “Pain Train”, and “Swat Team”. I’ll remember that any time I needed ANYTHING I could call on a sister and they would be there immediately.

So, I’m telling you this story to explain that these experiences are the ones that really matter. Yes, I love music. Yes, I love serving the bands. Yes, I love being president of an awesome organization. Yes, I love all of the important things we do that allow us to function. But, what I love the absolute most is just being a sister in a sorority that is truly a family to me.

MLITB,
Jeanne

Sisterly Engagements

On September 20, 2007 a man named Zachary Bitting asked me before school started if I would be his girlfriend.

I, of course, said yes! For a year, I had liked this boy and I never DREAMED he would like me in return. He was, and still is, the sweetest guy! A couple days before he asked me out, we were texting each other and he confessed he liked someone. I was just thinking, “Awesome. I will never have the chance.” After about an hour he confessed it was me that he liked. I was shocked and thrilled and I didn’t know what to think. My boyfriend before Zachary just wasn’t nice and, though I liked Zach a lot, I was still nervous. So I asked him, “Will you ever hurt me?” I will never forget his response. “Never. I promise you. And I mean it.” I never trusted anybody more than I trusted him in that moment.

Zachary and I have done ssooooo many things together since that beautiful day!

We went to New York

We’ve been to three proms!

This was our first!

And we have even been backpacking where we couldn’t shower for three whole days!

On December 20, 2010, Zachary Bitting asked me to marry him.

I didn’t think I would cry because I have known we were going to get married. However, I bawled like a baby when he told me how much he loved me and how he wanted nothing more than to get married, have kids and grow old together.

I posted on facebook that same night my new relationship status: engaged! The next day I checked it and was overwhelmed with notifications. I think the ones that meant the most though were the ones from my future Tau Beta sisters. It was December so I already went to my informal interview, but I was still uncertain of whether or not I was actually going to join. I’m shy at first and I didn’t really know anybody else who was going to join or any of the members that well. But when I saw that every member of Tau Beta not only “liked” my status but took the time and post a congratulations on my wall and sent me text messages I just felt so special. I knew they already cared and I wasn’t even their sister yet. When I saw them in person next was at the Bowl game (woot!) and they all came up to me and wanted to hear “the story” and looked at my ring and they made me feel at home. That’s when I knew I was right for Tau Beta Sigma. And I was right. I didn’t join a sorority. I joined a family.

I love you sisters and I love you Zachary! I don’t know where I’d be without any of you.

The Un-Canopy Experience

9/19/2011

I feel like enough time has past (partially due to my busy schedule and for that I am sorry!) that I can now finally publicly announce that the canopies are no more (and I'm not sure whether or jump for joy for sigh out of exasperation).  If you've been on or around Baylor's campus (specifically by edge field) in the last few weeks you've probably noticed this, but it is time for a formal Iota canopy obituary.
Picture

The Canopies, also known as the shade or sometimes even referred to individually by section (i.e. "The Trumpet Canopy), were just over one year of age when they passed away this fall. They were wonderful canopies and brought much joy to those who had little to no input in their construction.  The job they set forth to do was always done exactly right, except for when the sun was at the wrong angel during band week and when the shade was on the wrong side of the fence, but that's ok because most of the time they did exactly what they were meant to do.
Picture

During the summer of 2010 the canopies enjoyed being put up and taken down by the wonderful members of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma numerous times as practice before the band season began.  This was the most eventful and memorable time in their lives.  Originally the canopies started as a set of four, and unfortunately we lost one in the fall of 2010 due to a freak wind accident during the first day of band week.

Picture

After this situation the remaining three spent most of their life in the band shed and in storage while the canopy officials constructed a proper plan for further canopy safety.  In the summer of 2011 plans were made to add straps to increase the life of the canopies.  This addition did help, but the canopies did not hold on long enough and passed away late in the morning on September 4, 2011. They will be forever missed.  It is however rumored that there may be enough parts to put together either one or two canopies for next season.  Maybe the canopy legacy will live on, but maybe it will not.  For now we will live in sorrow and grieve for our loss.

(And of course TBS/Kpsi met up to tear down the canopies when they unexpectedly blew over.  We love us some canopies!)

It was Neon Day last Friday and we have some super cute pictures for our readers to check out!

I don't know if you can tell, but we love spirit day!  It's our favorite day of the week here in Iota. Do any of you alumni have any cool pictures of stories from spirit days when you were a member? What about you sisters from other schools? If you chapters has something cool like this that you do then send us a picture and a short snippet so that we can share it on our blog!

In other news! Following spirit day, we played SFA during the first time it's rained in waco since Noah and his arch! (Oh I'm so clever...) And boy did it rain, well mostly it was just lightening, but that was enough to get the game called and have us ladies of Iota rushing through service looking like wet dogs!

Emily and Bruiser!

We did however enjoy what we had of the game.  I mean, how could we not enjoy beating a team 48-0 in only two and a half quarters?  Sic 'Em!

Thanks for stopping by and reading!  We've got some pretty awesome stories coming your way this week, so keep popping in!
